Who is Rui Hachimura?
Born February 8, 1998 in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. After graduating from Meisei High School in Miyagi in 2016, Hachimura attended Gonzaga University in the United States. As a member of the Gonzaga University basketball team, he became the first Japanese national to play in a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament. Hachimura received the 2018-2019 Julius Erving Award, which recognizes the top men’s collegiate small forwards of the year. He made history when he became the first Japanese-born player ever to be chosen in the NBA Draft, going to the Washington Wizards as the ninth overall pick. In his rookie season, Hachimura played in 48 of 72 games, and his stellar performance earned him a spot on the second-team NBA All-Rookie Team. The 23-year-old stands 203 centimetres tall and weighs in at 104 kilograms.
Represent the flag colors of Benin, the home country of Hachimura’s father.
The design begins with the case, metal band loop, and buckle ion-plated in lustrous copper, and then adds yellow, green, and red, the national colors of Hachimura’s ancestral home of Benin, to the hands, dial and cloth band loops.
Switch between watchbands — classic black to make the copper case really pop, or the truly special kente-cloth* motif. Hachimura’s personal logo, which combines the Japanese character for 8 (八) and a Japanese sword, is engraved on the metal band loop and the back of the watch case.
Metal-covered shock-resistant structure
The bezel is crafted with metal material. Minute protrusions on the inner case reduce surface contact with the bezel to cushion shocks to the module.
Glass fiber reinforced resin inner case
The watch includes a textured black resin band and a second brown resin band with a traditional West African kente-cloth pattern. The bands are equipped with quick-release levers for easy swapping. Hachimura’s “Black Samurai” personal logo (derived from the Japanese character for “8”) is engraved on the case back and stainless steel band keeper. Born in Japan, Hachimura played for the Japanese national team in the 2020 Summer Olympics and will continue his NBA career as a Washington Wizard this fall.
Forged and molded bezel
Undergoing about 20 forging processes, as well as cutting and polishing, the bezel is precisely crafted from a highly uneven molding to a back surface shape that determines the precision of its assembly.
– Hairline and Mirror Finishes [GM-110]
Circular and radial hairline finishes are applied to the raised and low portions of the bezel, and the slanted surface is polished to a mirror finish.
– Gold Ion Plating (IP) and All-Mirror Finish [GM-110G]
Mirror finishing is applied to the metal bezel. Gold coloration is achieved with an IP process.
Super illuminator
High-intensity LED lights up the watch face with high-intensity light, maintaining watch readability in the dark.
Magnetic resistant
JIS1 magnetic resistance is achieved with a magnetic-resistant plate mounted in the module. This prevents magnetism-caused hand deviation.
Battery life of about 3 years
A newly designed module delivers power-saving benefits to achieve extended battery life of about 3 years, up from conventional models’ 2 years.
